Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, & Lots of Blue...
A Destination Wedding in Mexico!
I have enjoyed watching as our agency has become increasingly involved in the planning of destination weddings. One of our own, Kara Lindsey, recently exchanged vows with her new husband, Alex, on a gorgeous beach in Mexico. It was so much fun to hear all the plans as Kara put the entire event together and then to hear how special the beach wedding was to the couple and for their guests. So, without further ado, in Kara’s own words, here is how Kara and Alex made their destination wedding the intimate and unique experience they desired.
SOMETHING OLD...
We wanted a special way to celebrate our long-time friendships with family and friends. By choosing a destination wedding, we experienced no outside day-to-day interruptions—just hours of one-on-one time to celebrate the past and toast the future with our guests. To bring in a bit of the old, we asked our guests to submit their favorite song, an oldie but goody, on our RSVP card and all our guests had their tunes played during our reception.
SOMETHING NEW... Our guests had the opportunity to experience lots of new things! Some experienced new adventures like parasailing and scuba diving, many tried new foods, and others were simply experiencing the destination for the first time. Others considered the time away from home a re"new"al of their own personal commitments to their spouses/partners.
SOMETHING BORROWED...
I decided my something borrowed would be the location. The hotel perfectly suited our needs for an all-inclusive, adults-only, deluxe resort with amazing suites. (There are family-friendly options, but we chose not to have children present.) The location was perfect and self-contained. We hosted our welcome reception, wedding, cocktail hour, wedding reception and brunch in different locations throughout the resort without ever worrying about transportation, and each event was truly unique and special.
SOMETHING BLUE... This was comprised of several blues. First, the blue in the handkerchief my older sister gave me. She had our names and wedding date monogrammed to match the handkerchief she carried when she married 13 years ago. But, the biggest blue was the amazing crystal waters of Maroma Beach, the backdrop for our beach wedding. The waves crashed behind us during our ceremony and it was truly a romantic and intimate ceremony.
We will cherish the memories of this amazing experience with our friends and families and will forever be grateful we chose a destination wedding.
